The Best Way to Give Your Car a Clean this Spring

It may feel like the throes of winter in Yorkshire, but technically, spring is just around the corner.

In fact, it’s just one day away, beginning tomorrow, 20th March, and ending June 21st.

Bringing brighter weather and connotations of renewal, spring offers the perfect opportunity to spruce up a motor and give it a thorough clean.

With brighter skies expected towards the end of the week, now is a great time to get stuck in.

Yorkshire-based used car dealership The Car Spot offers the best methods for creating an immaculate car, getting you and your vehicle ready for the summer months.

Here’s how to do the exterior:

  • Rinse off your car with clean water to remove any loose dirt

  • Using a sponge and warm, soapy water in a bucket, wash down the car from top to bottom, using circular motions

  • Re-hose the car with fresh water

  • Use a brush and wheel cleaner to remove dirt from your wheels before rinsing

  • Use a chamois leather — essentially a drying cloth — to remove any remaining water

  • Finally, polish and buff the vehicle to add a shine.

Now for the interior:

  • Have a clear out and remove any rubbish from the side pockets, foot wells, glovebox and drink holders

  • Wipe down all surfaces, including the dash, steering wheel, doors, handbrake and mirrors

  • Take out the car mats and vacuum underneath, as well as the seats and around the handbrake. Being sure to get into any nooks and crannies, before vacuuming the car mats and replacing them inside the motor

  • Clean the inside of the windows with window cleaner and the seats with upholstery cleaner.

The Car Spot offers a commission-based approach to car selling, enabling customers to retail their car for a one-off, flat fee.

David Hobin, director at The Car Spot said: “As well as making it look great, cleaning a car properly will also preserve its value. When it comes to reselling, a well-maintained, scratch-free vehicle will attract a lot more buyers and sell for better money.

“Although it doesn’t feel like spring at the moment, it’s expected to get warmer and brighter over the following week, so it’s a good time to think about cleaning a car ahead of Easter.”

The Car Spot — which launched last month — is based in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, and online at
